The R32 has proved to be a very enjoyable car to drive. So much so that I don’t drive the Scirocco much anymore. With driving it a lot one thing I noticed poor sound quality and a lack of features from the stereo.
Because modern cars have many features I felt the Golf needed a slight upgrade. I was missing features like Bluetooth, Navigation and Spotify. On top of this the rear speakers weren’t sounding too good.
I made a trip to Car Electronics Derby to see what they had available to modernise the Golf’s stereo. The guys in there were incredibly helpful. I walked away with a double din Kenwood head unit and some JL Audio Speakers.
Because the Kenwood DMX7017DABS features Apple CarPlay, I am able to plug my phone into the USB and it mirrors key apps onto the screen of the head unit. So as you can see from the photo it features my phone book and call history, Maps and Spotify.
Now on to removing the rear speakers. I noticed a lot of distortion from these rears. The guys at Car Electronics recommended some JL Audio C1-650x speakers to replace these. The difference in sound quality is noticeable and obviously the distortion is no longer.
Overall the Golf has had a much needed in car entertainment boost and an improvement to the sound quality.
